Brass Bail Maple Necklace-6

Description

This maple leaf necklace is made from hand cast crystal clear polyester resin that was removed from the mold before completely curing and hand cut with and Exacto blade. After curing the edges were sanded smooth and the piece was finished with a clear glossy non-yellowing protective coating which is chemically bonded to the resin. The back of the leaf has been carefully hand painted in a reverse glass painting technique with layers of metallic and iridescent enamels to resemble an autumn leaf. The solvents in the enamels I use melt the surface of the resin and chemically fuse with the resin upon curing which gives it the look of dichoric glass and ensures it is permanent.
The painted back of the leaf is sandwiched and finished with gold-tone foil and layered with brush-on clear and translucent sepia enamels for added strength and durability and has the look of a brushed bronze.
The colours and tonal shifts in this piece are golden oranges, corals, mauves and specks of dark silvery brown. The resin leaf is about 2 inches long by 1 inch wide and is mounted onto a brass replica maple leaf skeleton and a smaller frosted orange and green enameled semi-translucent Lucite maple lead charm hangs from the resin leaf by a matching chain.
16 inch 2mm brass plated cable chain with 3 inch decorative extension chain ending in a genuine antique 4mm brass bell handmade in India. Necklace closes with a gold-tone spring rind clasp.

The photos of this piece were taken in different settings with a variety of lighting to show the colours and the colour shifts of the iridescence. Some are indirect lighting, some are direct while others may have used a flash. These pendants are prismatic with a mirror effect which is almost imposable to show correctly in photos.

I opted to put this photo in 'photos-still life' because I spent quite a lot of time and trouble of the setup and I like the over photo as an overall image rather then just for the jewelery's sake
