Description

This oak leaf is hand cast in crystal clear polyester resin and finished with a clear glossy non-yellowing protective coating which is chemically bonded to the resin. The back of the leaf has been carefully hand painted in a reverse glass painting technique with layers of metallic and iridescent enamels to resemble an autumn leaf. The solvents in the enamels I use melt the surface of the resin and chemically fuse with the resin upon curing which gives it the look of dichoric glass and ensures it is permanent.
The painted back of the leaf is sandwiched and finished with gold-tone foil and layered with brush-on clear and translucent sepia enamels for added strength and durability and has the look of a brushed bronze.
The colours and tonal shifts in this piece are copper, gold, patina green, ruby and dusty mauve.
The resin leaf is wire wrapped in 22 and 18 gauge jewelers brass and 24 gauge copper. There are 4 semi-translucent Lucite leaf charms hand painted with iridescent enamels measuring ½ inch and 1 inch mounted with copper plated leaf shaped bails. The two Lucite leaves charms on the bottom of the pendant are hung from genuine antique soldered-link solid copper chain that is from necklace belonging to my great-great grandmother that I inherited years ago from my grandmother, the most delicate looking chain I have ever seen but is very sturdy despite its age, even sturdier then most modern chains I work with.
The pendant is about 4 inches tall by 2 inches wide with the charms extending an additional 3 inches.

The photos of this piece were taken in different settings with a variety of lighting to show the colours and the colour shifts of the iridescence. Some are indirect lighting, some are direct while others may have used a flash. These pendants are prismatic with a mirror effect which is almost imposable to show correctly in photos.
